MBDP Success Story

Kelly Arnold and Joe O’Brian had an unrealized dream .. to start a video store specializing in DVD rentals. Both unemployed at the time, they researched technical assistance in Burlington and came to the CVOEO Micro Business Development Program (MBDP) where they learned a lot about market research, business plans, financial statements, and loan applications. The major barrier was obtaining sufficient capital to refurbish the store in Richmond and purchase a start-up inventory of thousands of video and DVD titles. Their enthusiasm and commitment, coupled with the solid business plan and financial statements they created with guidance from MBDP, resulted in obtaining an SBA approved loan from the Vermont Development Credit Union. Kelly and Joe are now open for business.
“We came to CVOEO’s Micro Business Development Program armed only with an idea, and the will to realize it. Anne Peter, CVOEO MBDP business counselor, guided us very well. During the writing of the business plan, Anne intervened only when necessary, nudging us here and there until we had put together a solid plan that neither of us had ever thought we were capable of. We couldn’t have done it without MBDP assistance.”
